The Golf Ball
By Robert Bernard

One thing most golfers never think about is the golf ball they’re playing with. The modern golf ball is the most regulated piece of golf equipment we have today. Even with the new driver technology, exotic shaft materiel, and high rebound clubfaces of the most modern irons, the golf ball is still the most advanced of them all. There has been a proposal put forth to golf’s governing bodies to standardize the modern ball for Professional play to even the playing field. Of course I don’t believe this will ever happen given the billions of dollars spent of brand specific golf balls and the personal preferences of the players.

I can remember not long ago we only had 2 or 3 golf balls to choose from. We had the “red” numbered 90 compression ball and the “black” numbered 100 compression ball. It was known then that the 90-compression ball was for Ladies and slow swingers, and the 100-compression ball was for Pros and hard hitters. With today’s technology, the most popular golf ball in the world for Pros and top Amateurs compression runs in the mid 70s. This is quite a difference, especially when the 90-compression ball was considered for Ladies and slow club head speeds. Every major golf ball manufacturer today has an offering in the low compression ball market and the segment is growing fast. These are anywhere from 50 to 60 - compression and down as low as 40 in a few.

These golf balls are designed to fly farther with slower swing speeds because the golfer can compress the ball easier and use the energy not only from the club head, but also all the energy packed into the ball. This new technology golf ball can be found in all pro-shops from virtually every ball manufacturer. Try one out, when you fire your Engine and Piston, you WILL see and feel a difference.

Centre of Gravity Golf - “The Golf-Swing Simplified”

After years of learning to play this great game followed by many years of teaching others to enjoy themselves on the golf course, I have concluded that golf instruction for the masses has been communication of a complicated “mish – mash” of angles, gadgets, jargon, and contradictories, leaving the casual golfer confused… but wanting more. What I’ve done with Center of gravity Golf is break down the golf swing to a basic 1,2,3 motion that anyone can understand and can do. Understanding dynamic balance alone can help you be a more consistent swinger of the golf club and therefore a better ball striker, and when put together in the proper sequence, the 1,2,3 golf swing will bring you many years of frustration free, golfing enjoyment.
I draw my philosophies on the golf swing from many expert sources such as Bobby Jones, David Lee, Harvey Pennick, David Pelz, & the great Canadian ball striker Moe Norman, just to name a few. While these great teachers and players of the game inspired me to the best Golf Pro I could be, it was my Father, Gerard “Joe” Bernard “an outstanding athlete in many sports” who taught me to break things down to their simplest form in order to really understand what was happening so I could work to improve quickly. So thanks Dad for that lesson, it stuck with me all these years. I believe I’ve accomplished what I set out to do with this book. If you’re looking for complicated solutions with lots of jargon, references to Touring Professionals golf swings, miracle gadgets to buy, or quick band-aid solutions, this is not the program for you. C.O.G. golf is an improvement program that is easy to understand, easy to implement, easy to remember, and it works. It is my goal that you improve today, so find a comfy spot and enjoy…
