Rocco Mediate running on fumes at Buick Open
His newfound popularity has come at a price for Rocco Mediate.
The 45-year-old golfer is feeling the physical strain of his two-week ride as heroic runner-up to Tiger Woods in the U.S. Open.
He skipped last week’s PGA Tour stop in Connecticut to rest up, but then filled in for Boo Weekley at the CVS Caremark Charity Classic this Monday and Tuesday in Rhode Island.
After a Tuesday night flight here, he teed it up at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday in the Buick Open pro-am, then came back Thursday morning to shoot an opening-round 71.
“I’m so tired I can’t even talk,” Mediate said after stumbling over a few words in a post-round press conference. “You know I’m tired when I can’t speak.
